If you don’t pay close attention, you will wind up paying way more for your items at The Prop Store Auction. Scheduled for September 23rd, 2015, there are a ton of great items, and Prop Store has definitely made the best auction catalog since we printed our Stargate Catalogs at Propworx in 2010 (why can’t Profiles step up and improve their catalogs?).
The problem is this auction is being held in the UK. That means all prices are in British pounds, so right off the bat, you better be multiplying your bid by at least 1.52, the current conversion rate. In the quick action of an auction, this can be tough, so have a chart next to you with the potential bids you might place and what the GBP price equals in $. For example:
£ 1,000 = $ 1,520
£ 1,250 = $ 1,918
£ 1,500 = $ 2,302
In addition, the fees for this auction are the highest for any prop auction I have seen.
If you live in the UK you have to pay VAT, which is like sales tax, so I am not going to deal with that. We pay sales tax in the US too (thought it is half of VAT at worst). But what if you live in the USA? Here are the fees you will pay:
Buyers Premium 24% (includes 20% VAT on Buyers Premium for non-EU bidders)
Fee for bidding online 3%
Fee for using credit card 2%
Total fees for US Bidders 29%
So please be aware when bidding and bid appropriately.
